Celestial

Anything in space, live: a rocky world (ten looks and any seed, with an optional moon and station), a gas giant (ringed, banded, ice or hot), a nebula, a pulsar or a black hole that bends light, each with its own looks. It turns on its own, can be dragged to look around, orbits as the page scrolls, and takes copy beside it like any hero.

Worth knowing

  • Every look is parameters in the shader (colours, sea level, ice line, cloud cover, molten seas, bands, rings), so a new planet costs nothing to download.
  • Only the chosen object is built; the ORBITAL voyage builds all five from the same code.
  • The black hole traces each pixel’s light ray through curved space, so the disk shows above and below the shadow; the ringed giant and its rings shadow each other analytically; the nebula is ray-marched through a 3D texture baked once at load.
  • Static renders a few frames and stops. Dragging turns the view and it drifts back over the settle time.
